Tips to Take Care of Skin at Home

Taking care of skin at home can seem complicated with the endless options for
cleansers, toners, face masks, moisturizers, and more hair care tools. However, there are simple
steps that anyone can take to keep their complexion healthy and radiant.

While it’s tempting to try the latest product, remember that products alone aren’t
enough to keep your skin healthy. Instead, it’s important to combine a well-rounded
regimen that includes healthy eating and exercise, proper rest, stress management,
and sunscreen to give your skin the best chance at looking its best.
Start with a good cleanser. Whether your complexion is oily, dry, or somewhere in
between, a cleanser designed for your skin type can help balance the complexion
and minimize breakouts and redness. Look for one that contains hydrating
ingredients, antioxidants, and/or soothing ingredients.
Then, use a toner and a moisturizer to prevent breakouts and keep your skin
hydrated. Avoid harsh scrubs or other abrasive exfoliators, which can damage the
skin and lead to dryness.
To get the most out of your moisturizer, apply it after you wash and while your skin
is still slightly damp. This allows it to absorb the moisture, and it helps seal in your
favorite lotion or cream.

In addition to moisturizing, a moisturizer should also contain nourishing ingredients
like antioxidants, which can help protect against sun damage, and peptides, which
may boost collagen production and prevent fine lines. If your skin is sensitive, look
for a formula that’s gentle on the complexion, and test out natural oils such as olive
or coconut.
Finally, be sure to use a broad spectrum sunscreen with SPF 50 or higher. Not only
will it protect against sun damage, but it can also boost the effectiveness of your
moisturizer and even reduce the number of breakouts you have over time.
If you’re unsure of what type of skin care routine is right for you, talk to your
dermatologist. They can evaluate your skin to determine if you have a condition that
requires additional treatment, and they’ll provide you with tips for keeping your
complexion healthy and radiant at home.
